Good morning everyone. I’ve been training using, for a short time now, Trainer Road, both Indoor (with the TR app) and Outdoor (with Garmin Edge 1040). Precisely on the subject of the outdoors, following the advice for the Garmin screen, I created a profile which I then called TR, on which I then set up a page of data fields as recommended by TR. Now… the problem is that, in the ‘Objective Workout’ data field, despite having set ‘Workout / Target / Primary Target’, I see the power value detected on the entire LAP instead of on the power produced over 3 seconds (!!! ) This is a really important aspect in training. It is obvious that if during, for example, an IT of 15’ @200W I read the value on the whole 15’ and not that of the 3" (or 1" or 10" personal choice), I have an unreliable indication, or rather, useless to I instead tried to load another workout that I used periodically until a few months ago: in fact everything works and the power is read on the 3s and not on the IT lap. an aspect set by the TR development technicians which then goes on to be reflected in the file, (I think FIT), which TR switches to the Garmin calendar.I also read something on the forum but, in fact, it seems to me that a change has not yet been made. For me, as I think for many other users, it’s a very important aspect that would really make a difference. For me it would also make a difference in terms of choice (of software…), since I also use TR for external training; in all honesty and objectivity, I’d really hate to leave TR that I really appreciate for the many other aspects, but this, for me (very personal opinion), is one aspect that would make the difference. Has anyone solved this problem or know how to solve this problem?
Thank you everyone,
all the best.

You’re right. My Garmin shows the average lap power as target for the interval, which I don’t like either.
My turn around is not using the Garmin “workout mode”.
I set average 3s. Average for the lap, time and time ahead. Hr and cadence.

**Hi Alex,**thanks.
yes, me too have performed the same alternative procedure. I used a data screen with a gauge for 3s power and target indicators, reps/series remaining time (step and reps to go), HR and RPM. I must also say that I am awaiting the support to which I wrote an e-mail. Up to now the assistance support service has been truly commendable, it must be said, and, I take it, I will get an answer already tomorrow; I will update the post if I have any news. Good evening !
Cheers.

I noticed this too. Trainer Road workouts do average lap power which threw me off a bit. Other workouts I have tried through training peaks show 3 s power on the workout screen correctly.

TrainerRoad sets that field to average lap power. I posted technical details on the forum.
Contact support and ask them to support 3s power.

Thanks @WindWarrior,
yes, I write to the support and now I’m waiting for their reply, I have specified the problem well as well as other (minor) corrections that can be implemented in a subsequent update. But the main thing to solve is this, the power on 3 or 5 or 10 s and absolutely not on the Lap, completely useless. Good evening.

I’ve ignored the built in workout screen. What I did was create a new screen that has the following fields:
- Time to Go
- 3s Power
- Target Power. This was a connect IQ field found here: Target Power Data Field
- Then HR/Cadence whatever else you might want. (I also like last lap avg power)
The Target Power data field from Connect IQ will just take the middle of a range if that’s what TR/Garmin sends to the computer. So if you have a Z2 interval with 200-220W then it will just display “210W”. Super clean and nice to not have to read a complicated power range while in the middle of a workout.

Hi @mwglow15 and thanks for suggestion,
yes, me too i have search this: Connect IQ Store | Free Watch Faces and Apps | Garmin.
Is a good option to change w/ the data field screen for the TR workout. Have a good visibility, simply and efficient. Yes, cadence is also important; in this datafield screen i have: this gauge power target, power 3s (but is optional for the reason is indicate on the gauge), reps and step to go, total time to go for the entire workout, and in the last two bottom grid, RPM and HR, it’s all i need during the workout session on the road.
Thanks again.
Cheers.

Thank you for sharing this! Hadn’t thought to check connectIQ to fix this.

Great suggestion,
I had already checked for some connect IQ filed and didn’t find anything interesting. That one you’ve shared looks excellent.
I’ll try it next workout.
Thanks

Yes, is very useful. Note when you use the Garmin Varia RTL, (radar and light system), you need positioning the numbers of the Power Workout Target, (of the gauge), in the bottom and not in top position, for the reason the right value, of the radar icon, on the right top of your Edge, hide the value of the max power workout. Alternative, is positioning this data field, w/ the gauge, in other bottom position, i love to view in top, first data field.
Cheers.
