I am about to complete the Traditional Base High Volume I Plan and plan to move to the Mid Volume II. The High Volume II is too much for me hence the switch to Mid.
For the Mid Volume II it consists of 1 Sweet Spot, 2 Tempo and 1 Endurance Ride (scheduled on a weekend). I normally do an outside ride during the weekends. I know I can swap the Endurance Ride for my outside ride but I wanted to keep a separate Endurance Ride to focus on Zone 2. Any suggestions on how to arrange my weekly schedule?
Hi Logan, I’m possibly going to find myself in a similar situation, doing TB1 MV & about to do TB1 HV before going into TB2, MV for the same reason.
What’s the focus of your weekend outside rides? Are they solo or with a group? I’m thinking if it’s a tempo ride with a group you could probably swap your Tuesday tempo for endurance, & this may also help with the fatigue you incur from your Monday sweetspot. I’d do it by editing the plan, swapping Tuesday & Saturday, & for what is now Saturday’s tempo ride tell it you’re going to do it as a solo or group ride.
If the Saturday ride is a bit easier but still with a decent amount of time in tempo I’d do a three-way swap so it gives you sweetspot on Monday, endurance on Tuesday, harder tempo on Thursday, & easier tempo on Saturday, then tell it you’re doing Saturday as an outside workout, group ride, or solo ride.
I personally wouldn’t arrange the harder of the two tempo workouts the day after sweetspot, because if it were me, fatigue from the sweetspot workout could nuke my tempo workout. I find that endurance is more tolerant of fatigue.
It looks like you’re getting some red days as a result of adding strength training to what’s already there; in that case I’d do it on Tuesday &/or Thursday, after the bike workouts.
I am curious why you are choosing to use the old, fixed plans instead of using plan builder to create a customised plan.

I’m guessing this was intended for OP, but the reason I’m hand-picking from the TB plans is to have a break from intervals for a couple of months, & I [now] have nothing on the calendar.
The TB plans aren’t as fixed as they once were, because AT does offer adaptations.

I chose the Traditional Base plans because the plan builder is more focused on Sweet Spot. I am taking advantage with the free time I have to do the Traditional Plans.

There is no training focus on the Saturday outside rides. It’s more like a go outside and bike with friends type of day. The course might be hilly on one weekend but flat the next. That’s why I also prefer a rest day before Saturday just to make sure I have the strength for wherever we go on the outside ride.

Yeah I’d still replace one of the tempo workouts. One sweetspot, one endurance, one tempo, one group ride. Then if a weekend group ride is particularly hard like the one on Jan 4 & if you’re concerned about fatigue, you could replace your following sweetspot with a tempo workout of the same duration.
