Trainer Road - Lunch and Learns?

It occurred to me watching the latest podcast there is so much more to TR that we can do. When @NateP dug into the software for analytics, I was impressed. Last year I used Training Peaks and loved all the analysis tools I had available with a full subscription. TR is built differently and I’m sure there is a lot there we don’t know about.

I’d love a podcast or two on how to use TR (maybe some Lunch and Learns ??). It’s mostly self-explanatory but there’s a lot more we can do that I didn’t know about.

Am I alone on this? Surely, I am not.

I’d be down for this. Another thing i’d be interested in is how Jon prepares for an event and creates a pacing plan. He’s mentioned reviewing strava files of other folks, reverse ‘engineering’ w/kg for segments and using best bike split to figure out what his fitness needs to be for specific outcomes.

I’ve done the same without executing on the plan but it would be interesting to hear/see him go through the process.

This is a great idea! I’ll make note of these so that we incorporate them into future content.

Bonus points if I were to give you this 70.3 bike leg and want to finish in 2:30 as a current 3.3w/kg rider with ~5 months to continue training.

The thing i’ve not really been able to account for is aero as I dont have enough personal sample data in strict aero tuck for more than a few minutes at a time on rides. How would you go collect the proper data to inform a future decision or fitness improvement/weight loss for the future?

Best Bike Split can help you….it will tell you the numbers you need to hit in order to go 2:30.

This is a fantastic idea. I’ve only ever used the TR app to set up workouts and evaluate progress but I understand it may have more features in a browser? There’s nothing I feel I’m missing terribly, but more capabilities and metrics would be good.

Not to highjack the thread - but i’ve done exactly that and found i need to normalize around 250 watts with obviously more power on the climbs. The part i’ve struggled with is not really knowing my speed to power ration when in a more aero position. I 'd love to hear from Jon what I should do to go simulate a run to extrapolate enough data to create a pacing plan from.

Would a 3x10min @ 280 watts in my aero position on a decently flat stretch with minimal wind help give enough data to know how i’d perform across that specific course?

AWESOME! I’ve worked for a user-focused software company for years and have put on plenty of L&L and training sessions. The best part is that every time I present, I learn something myself. Looking forward to it and seeing what else TR can do… to make me faster.
