TrainerRoad - what do users expect / want in the future

I would like to see a feature where an extra set or interval can be added at the end of a workout, before the warmdown. For example if you were doing a vo2 max session like sleeping beauty (5 sets of 5x30/30s) and were feeling strong, you could complete the 5 sets and then add a 6th round of efforts, similar to how you can extend the warmdown.

Nice idea, worth thinking about.

Maybe the app can make that suggestion if you have overachieved all your targets?

That would also work, but I was thinking about reducing the number of connections.

Basic analysis would be nice all within one ecosystem.

TR is full of “knobs” already. I do agree that HRV hasn’t personally shown me much promise as a precursor to performance, but they already have RLGL, pre/post workout surveys, alternates, Train Now, accept/dont AIFTP, etc. and depending on how people do or don’t use those, they are pulling a “knob”.

It was more of a hypothetical. Given that I think TR’s leadership believes its data pool is its greatest competitive advantage, I don’t think they’ll open up.

Yes, and because I don’t think they’ll open up, they should IMHO improve their analysis options. Even reviewing whether I have hit my power targets now requires a trip from the iOS app to the web page.

If TR included HRV data, then this might happen completely transparently to users: all it needed to do is replace the algorithms behind RL/GL and AT, for example.

Still, the number of knobs might be or might become a problem. On the one hand, I find their new version of Plan Builder quite complex. And I think you need to know TR very well to know what is going on. Then when I created my own plans, I found out, I used a lot of functionality.

I’ve asked about this in a previous thread. I’d love to see historical AIFTP for periods when I wasn’t using TR or I’m “missing” FTP tests.

The use case would be to look back at times where I didn’t have tests, run AIFTP, and then get a gauge that I could compare to periods where I was testing. It would be helpful to see what worked historically, or where my TR FTP was for successful efforts/races.

Hi TR team and all

Feature request:

  • ability to manually change an imported “custom” workout (from Garmin) that is typed as “other” by TR upon import into a strength training (in TR)
  • ability to then add working sets to this workout (in TR)

Rationale: “strength training” workout type in Garmin is overly restrictive in program structure and exercise selection, rendering it impractical to use in many cases. Thus, the use of “custom” (in Garmin) workout type for strength workouts.

Thanks

I agree with this.

I took seven or so years off from TrainerRoad as I’ve been mostly using Dylan Johnson plans in TrainingPeaks and FasCat. I thought I would come back and was flabbergasted it would not use my history to calculate an FTP. Now that I am back, it needs 10 workouts? Odd. I might only be doing this for a month and going back to TrainingPeaks and TrainingPeaks Virtual full time as I can see all of my Garmin metrics and the calendar is much more easy to navigate and add/remove events, strength etc.

Not sure if this is the right thread but I didn’t think a new thread was warranted.

Is there any news or updates on TR workouts pushing to Zwift? I haven’t heard any progress of this recently.

i would like to know this too

Jonathan has been posting a lot of Zwift rides on Strava. I know that’s not a final answer, but it’s definitely moving forward.

Also, another feature or option I thought would be nice for some people who are not fans of the “busy” workouts. For every workout (or almost every one), offer a “Simple Workout” button. So for example, for those long sweet spot that undulate from 88-90% through the interval, just give me a set target. Or for workouts that are like 12@92, 12@88, 12@91, 12@90. Just give me like 4x12 @90. I don’t need or want all that unnecessary intensity modulation.

I have an irrational fear that, sometime when I’ve rated a workout moderate, Chad’s voice is going to come out of my phone saying “let’s test that theory” and another set is added to my workout.

It would be awesome to have weekly (and possibly monthly) stats shown on the career page, similar to weekly summary on the calendar page.

My suggestion here would be some sort of compliance notification when you have completed a block of your plan. Or something on career page?

Eg. After final session complete of base a notification that says words to the effect of;

You had X planned workouts
You completed X workouts as planned
You accepted/rejected X suggestions to your training plan

Your compliance score was X%

You could add as much/little info as might be deemed necessary.

It’s hard to say TR burned me out/didn’t work etc when compliance was low… Possibly due to rejecting proposed training adaptations

Thank you for this! I feel seen. I thought I was the only one who actively hates the unneccesary complication of many of the TR workouts. :raised_hands:

hopefully i’m replying to the OP and not a comment.

I’m new to TR, current triathlete who recently stopped using human coaches as it’s just not that important to spend $200+/month. one thing I was hoping to see is more on swimming. Both from a structure/attention perspective and the ability to send workouts to FormSwim goggles.

I’m also not 100% sold it’ll ramp me on the running side but I’m likely wrong, I just need to experience more of it.

I’d be content to pay an upcharge for the triathlon plans if they had a solid swim component, as long as it’s not 2-3X base cost. I signed up for Effortless Swimming last night which is another $16/month, deleting that would be great.

Are you asking for that as a feature? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

lol well not the upcharge, just more love for the swimming side of things
