I think you’re addressing the OP, but I’m similar, except I don’t currently use Zwift. (If I did, it would be to do the TR plan workouts). I use a training app in the winter months to help maintain/gain fitness when conditions aren’t good for riding outdoors, but I will ride outdoors when conditions permit. I want an app that will give me a structured plan/workouts that adapt for any outdoor non-plan riding I manage to do. TR is supposed to do that, but I’m trying to figure out how and what it does. For example, having to complete 10 TR workouts for AI FTP to kick in and take into account outdoor non-workout rides was a surprise, and I haven’t yet found that documented anywhere.
Yeah, I’m guilty. I missed that half way through the post you asked a question but weren’t the OP, so I combined both of your comments into 1 person.
Indeed it is there. I missed it. Mia culpa. However, whether I get AI FTP detection isn’t a key issue, per se. I’m interesting in getting a plan that adapts to my extracurricular riding. That could still happen with an FTP that is determined by periodic testing, though an adaptation that includes a change in FTP would be even better. I guess I’ll see how things go after I get that 10th TR workout in, though it looks like I’ll be riding outside a bit more as there are areas without much snow and it’s cold enough for the dirt/mud to remain frozen.
TR will adapt to your outdoor riding in terms of freshness and fatigue, but until WLV2 comes, you won’t see progression through the levels from outdoor only rides.
what is WLV2?
Workout Levels Version 2
OK then. Sounds like WLV2 should be closer to what I was hoping for when I got back on TR after many years away using other apps. What’s the eta?
Good question! (and ditto)
Hey there and welcome to the TR community!
As others mentioned, we are releasing a feature soon that will allow TR workouts to be pushed to Zwift – stay tuned for more on that soon!
You can also push TR workouts to your bike computer to do them as Outside Workouts. No need for the app if that is what you are looking for.
Since you have some training history already, I’d recommend using Workout Alternates to find workouts in the 3.X-4.X Workout Level range. Upon completion of a workout, your Progression Levels will then be updated, and your future workouts will be recommended based on your updated PLs.
For unstructured riding, you can take advantage of Red Light Green Light for fatigue management. If you take on too much training stress too quickly, RLGL will recognize that and propose modifications to your training plan.
Hope that helps clear some things up for you – feel free to let me know if you have any additional questions!
