Training and it's impact on your immune system

I’ve heard hard training can blunt your immune system. How long does the impact last? For example, if I do a 5 hour ride and I feel spent and depleted what kind of impact does that have and how long will my immune system need to recover?

I always assumed the impact lasted as long as I felt tired, a day or so, but the other day I heard your immune system is back up and running an hour or two after the ride.

Anyone shine some light on this topic?
