Why? Maybe I’m wrong. I typically use squirt to refresh waxed chains during races, but I’ve used oil-based wet lubes in a pinch several times. Other than choosing to re-soak in mineral spirits (and just being a bit messier) before re-waxing, I’m not sure what the downside would be.
I thought i had read somewhere that it basically had no effect since the wax essentially repelled whatever lube you put on…
I guess given a noisy, screaming drivetrain, there is no harm either way…
Still think I am gonna go with the Synergetic for FNLD and see what happens. I can then adjust back to a wax chain for my other races if I want.
I think josh stated the new lube will fill in the voids that was left when the wax broke dow. The fresh lube will push out the stuff that was in those voids like dust and grime. I dislike the wet lube with dry dust like the start of unbound or dust bowl as your just sucking in dirt to the driveline. feels like your hemorrhaging WATTS
This is the aerobar Dylan Johnson used at Leadville.
Controltech Impel TT UD Carbon Clip-on Aerobar Time Trial/Triathlon Gray Deco, WH1852 https://a.co/d/52pv41k
It looked like Keegan had a slightly smaller type on his bike at Unbound.
Keegan had either the ridefarr bar or something very similar. I think Pro Bike gear makes one, not sure if it ever released to the public though.
I think I’m going to try aero bars for the 200 this year. My triceps were extremely fatigued last year at the end and I was wishing I had that extra position for the benign sections.
After someone mentioned the giardia incident, is there a real worry about this? does anyone do anything to protect their water bottles?
From DJ’s video I am assuming he is running the Factor integrated aero bars, but he didn’t post any follow up videos about how is equipment worked on unbound.
I might go with the Bontrager clip ons. Will have to see as I haven’t ridden clip on in more than 20 years.
I also haven’t seen Pathfinder Pros anywhere…I wonder if Spec is releasing a new version of them.
I was concerned about it, so I used the Camelbak Dirt series bottles. I practiced taking the cap off/on during training. It became second nature.
I’ve been living in largely argucultural areas drinking bottles covered in farm mud for 20 years. I’ve been building up a tolerance that long.
Maybe include something like that in your training rides.
DJ cant run aero bars in 2023. I just went to specialized website, I didnt see pathfinder Pro they had the pathfinder sworks.
I don’t remember Lifetime’s exact wording, but did they definitively rule out Keegan’s minibar for the Pro’s?
For Leadville, where Lifetime ruled out aerobars for everyone, where will the line be drawn for small clip on bars and inner bar-ends? They talked about this a bit on Bonk Bros but no one is really sure.
Not sure on the races and the mini clip ons. I do know the factor uses the aero bars from the factor tt bike. I think those bars are not going to be ok
If you already own CamelBak bottles, you can also just buy the caps separately.
I tried the alloy version of those before Unbound in 2019…found them too short for me. But I can also get long and low very easily, so that may well be a “me” issue. I’m sure I would find the same thing with any “shorty” aerobar.
Point being…try them a lot on training rides, whichever bars you choose.
One other point…if you use bars with pads, you are gonna lose access to riding on your tops. For some, that can be a deal breaker.
Unless you get the Profile clamps with the flip-up pads, but then theya re gonna rattle for 200 miles.
Pick your poison.
I’ve been looking at the ride farr large aero bolt on. Seems like it would offer some good hand positions without going full aero and still having access to riding the tops. But at $150, I could just get an actual set of aero bars. I haven’t used any kind of aero bar but really interested in adding more positions for the 200
I’m going to give the Profile Design Neosonic Ergo 45AR a try.
I am worried about losing the position on the tops, but we’ll see how that shakes out during some of my test events/training.
Those look quite nice and also offer an optional clip on arm pad, but that’s another $99.
Any thoughts on best options for full aerobars? Was looking at ENVE’s, but come with a high price tag
Another option if you are concerned about that is these clamps / rests from Specialized and use whatever extensions you want.
I def want to run clip on bars. I want to Drop that cda
