At the end of last week’s podcast we briefly touched on doing big races as narratives on the podcast again!
I’m equal parts excited and nervous to ask this, but where in the world should I race in 2025??

Is there a race that you have not done that when/ if your racing career ends you would be disappointed that you hadn’t? if yes I’d start there.
Highly recommend both The Rift and FNLD GRVL.
Both are fantastic events in gorgeous counties but also wildly different. Iceland is about untamed beauty and ruggedness while FNLD has fantastic gravel through wonderful, scenic woodlands.
I would put those high on your list for gravel events.
Find something in Australia - I’m sure Nate will spot the cost associated with that. Lol - and I’ll do it with you
What’s the biggest road event down there? Is it Peaks Challenge?
Those sound awesome! Big volume tires for Rift?
Tour of Bright 100% - just ask Luke Plapp
Otherwise I reckon Peaks Challenge is probably the biggest road event. I’d rather do Dirty Warny (looks awesome) or Radl Gravl though, and I don’t even ride gravel.
I would too if it wasn’t the same day as Mooloolaba tri which I’m doing as a team with my sister & her husband. It’ll be their first race since having kids so pretty important to them, & me.
Oh wait… come do a triathlon!
@Jonathan did you at some point on the podcast mention the Pittsburg Dirty Dozen as a bucket list race, or am I mis-remembering?
Breck Epic for sure!
Park City Point 2 Point!
Moab Rocks 3 day stage race would also be another good one if you have not raced this.
2021 me did it with 40’s, had no issues and didn’t think anything about it.
2024 me would run the fattest tires I could.
Iceland is a truly stunning country. Photos fail to do it justice….but this one is pretty cool.
Was just thinking that when listening to the podcast - it’s such a good one
Maratona Dolomiti was a bucket list event I had envisioned pre fatherhood - I had been invited but didn’t pull the trigger. I would love to do that someday.
The Taiwan hillclimb challenge just looks so crazy and epic and in Japan! How cool would that be? I remember finding out about that before retired pros entered the field. Still looks pretty incredible.
I know there’s a growing number of gravel events across Europe and I’d probably pick something out under the Gravel Earth Series of events. They look they put on challenging events capped off by great after parties.
You could do the Cape to Cape MTB race while you’re down here too.
Peaks Challenge is definitely a bucket list event! And we all know how much you’d enjoy the mountain vista’s!!!
Done Rift2024 200k using Pirelli Cinturato 45’, which was a superb choice; pay attention to pressure and counterintuitively bcs of the terrain DO not over-inflate, it will get very bumpy
Maybe not for 2025, but https://fredwhittonchallenge.co.uk/ certainly deserves a place on your long list.
And maybe this http://3peakscyclocross.org.uk/
Oh, and for 2025 Gravel World champs in Nice actually looks pretty good.
