If you don’t get enough sleep you will cause yourself a lot of problems. Struggling to lose weight will be just one of the problems. You can actually reduce your lifespan. I am not a health professional but I’ve read some studies that really opened my eyes to how big of a deal sleep is. The guys from TR suggest a book called “why we sleep”. I didn’t read that one but there is a lot of info out there on why it is so important.
I always felt obligated to soldier through like we all do. But reading up on sleep may me realize how counterproductive to well being that truly is.
First day back in the office (after Covid lockdown & a week of vaca) & when I put on my work pants & belt, I found out that I can no longer use hole number 15 on the belt but have to use number 14.I’m guessing I’m about 155lbs/70.5k at 5’5". I need to get back to 145/66 to feel comfortable. I’ve battled weight for a long time & am quite tired of yo yo ing. I’ll be tracking cals in MFP & weight trends in happy scale. I’ll enter my weight in the Google doc tomorrow.
@Johnnyvee, that is pretty incredible. I have read some of these things but he compiled even more data and is a compelling speaker. I know at times in my life when I was most sleep deprived I was the least healthy, including with my weight.
I actually passed it on to my team at work. We work in Global Supply Chain, which means calls with all time zones and being very busy. I am always telling them to take care of themselves but this will be a lot more compelling than me blabbering on about it.
I think eating a few meals regularly helps to make things easier for sure. You can keep track of how you are feeling and make changes etc and track easier
Week 1 in the books and Week 2 started… mark your progress for last week and watch what you eat. If someone else wants to join just start logging from this week.
Thank you for the reply. I am very aware of what sleep deprivation does. I work for UPS, and for me there is no option other than forced overtime.
Something had to give working long hours, unfortunately for me it was my training. As soon as it started getting busy and my sleep was deprived, the workingout/training came to a screeching halt. Eating habits stayed the same and the weight came on.
I biked 6 days last week and only lost about a 1 lbs/.5kg . My food choices aren’t the best but not the worst either. Any simple tips to improve metabolism?
I don’t think ‘improving’ your metabolism is the best way to go about it. I think focusing on what you can most easily control, i.e. improving your diet, is the better approach. Are you tracking calories?
Haha, ok I’m officially starting out here now with weight logging.
Just coming off SSB Mid volume, plus extra endurance riding; ~10hr/week total. Finished up the final rest week of the block up half a pound, the weekly withings weight average came in at 181.2. Not particularly disappointed in that, though I would have preferred to keep Weight static.
Starting Short power build tomorrow with a ramp test, and will be logging in myfitnesspal as well. I’d like to cut half a pound a week or so to lean up some. Setting a goal of under 180 at the end of the first block.
I just installed MyFitnessPal app and entered my food consumption for today. After breakfast, lunch and snacks, I’ve got 600 calories available for the rest of the day, assuming no exercise.
BTW is there a way to “Multi-Reply” in a post? A couple of you responded to mine but I could only select one of you when I clicked Reply.
I have been using the My Fitness Pal for tracking my food. It is amazing what a difference just tracking it makes. I never gave it a thought and would just eat too much. I am stopping just a little sooner but I don’t feel like it isn’t enough.
I’m 3 months postpartum, so I gained an excessive amount of weight for quite some time, ha! I’m now 5lbs above pre-pregnancy weight, and 10lbs up from my typical training/racing weight. The scale hasn’t moved in a little while so I suspect I’m going to have to change something now, sadly
I should add that I love to bake…and chocolate cake and I are BFFs. What did help me lose a lot fo the weight (other than ejecting a small human and feeding said human) was adding IF at 14-16ish hour windows.
