Weird AT suggestions almost all the time

Hey everyone,
I’ve come across multiple weird AT suggestions, namely, every time after Saturday hard workout it marks Sunday as yellow RLGL and offers to replace original 2.5h endurance with 45m one. This happens almost every week. I wrote to support and they say this is fine and it’s supposed to be so.

I don’t think this is fine though.

Anyone saw smth similar?

Thanks and happy training!

I’ve been seeing a bit of this recently. The prescribed plan seems to get itself into trouble with RLGL. I’ve been ignoring the adaptations but it would be better for it to learn that I can handle back to back hard days.

RLGL seems to be a little conservative sometimes. If you think you can handle more than AI want you to do, you can decline the downgraded workouts. A couple of yellow days is a warning to be mindful of any lingering fatigue.

I don’t recommend it generally but you can teach AI that you want more volume by just do more easier hours.

As you can see it took three days until the algorithm adjusted.

I just don’t get the point. Any day after Saturday 2h threshold workout would be yellow and it’s quite fine. If stock plan has endurance 2.5h on Sunday, that means either stock plan is garbage or AT is, and I tend to think the latter.

I don’t know, should I mark threshold 2h workout as easy? It is supposed to be hard or very hard by its nature, isn’t it?

Next to that, I have no idea what is taken into account in RLGL, TR doesn’t read any HRV nor RHR, so it’s little to no meaningful data is used for decision making. I use Athlytic for this and it looks like a better predictor for workout selection. “Listen to your body” is the best one anyway

I used to dismiss AT suggestions like this during summer and it doesn’t look like it learns anything from my usual training routine.

I agree, it doesn’t quite line up. If you haven’t already, you can adjust the Training approach slider in Settings to Aggressive and see if that makes more sense.

Will try, thanks man!

Had some similar (but not frequent) anomalies which I’ve put down to teething issues

Example: I did a 3.8 PL threshold workout as part of week 01 of polarised base mid volume.

Marked it as Very Hard even though I completed it. This was a 0.3 PL increase for me. My progression is set to ‘Balanced’ on the slider.

AI suggested the corresponding threshold workout next week should be bumped to a 4.7 PL.

No thanks Tom Hanks :joy:

For myself, I agree with this. I can do sweetspot the day after a 45’-1h VO2 max. I can do productive endurance the day after threshold, or after a strength session & run that are the day after threshold. In all cases yes it’s harder but still doable. I can’t do productive sweetspot the day after threshold. It depends which training zone I’m targeting on both the colored day & the day before. Also if the athlete has a day off to recover, & historically it’s been sufficient recovery to continue training afterwards as planned, well, I feel like it shouldn’t be adapting that endurance workout down. Conversely, if I go out for a 15-hour >300TSS ride & it gives me a red day & a yellow day after, I’m usually still not right to train hard on the next clear (green) day after, so there’s an example where it hasn’t picked up.

Feature request for @ming & @zackeryweimer (guessing this is still in your wheelhouse since your were both active with the launch of RLGL): In the setting for RLGL, can we have a toggle switch that makes RLGL informational only? Such as, I want to see what it has to say, but I’m also listening to my body & would like to manage my training load myself. But then its workout-adapting abilities could be accessed in the load workout screen. “Load workout” button + “See RLGL-suggested alternative”, or something like that. Or, are there plans to make RLGL more forward-looking, to see when an athlete has a day off after stacked days, & not adapt that last day before the day off if that day off has proven sufficient recovery in the past?

The best predictor I’ve ever had for whether I could productively do threshold repeats was when I climbed my driveway when heading out to begin that workout. It was something like a 15% grade, only about 10 metres long. If my glutes were stinging at the top I knew I was in trouble.

I’m only speculating, but perhaps this was one of the reasons behind updating the Plan Builder.

I checked my TP TSB, it was -2 for today, so I went for the full endurance outdoor ride, 2.75h at .67 of IF and it went just fine, Pwr:HR for MS was 1.16% which means I was totally fine for the ride like this.

Hey there,

As mentioned by other athletes here, it sounds like adjusting your Training Approach slider might help with this. You can find that setting here.

And as @TomasIvarsson said, yellow (and even red) days are meant to guide you and warn you about excess fatigue. If you’re feeling good and you think you can handle an Endurance ride on a yellow day – especially if you have a full-on rest day the day afterward – then I’d say go for it! Just be mindful of your fatigue levels and how you’re feeling as you move forward.

As you continue to train, AT/RLGL will learn what you’re capable of doing and keep dialing in your training plan to reflect your current fitness.

And @roleypup thanks for the suggestion – I’ll pass that note along to the rest of the team.
