And all the local roads will be marked with directional arrows for weeks to come.

I don’t know if the markers they use are brilliant or annoying as hell.

Thanks for posting this @Duppie606 – I signed up on a whim at the last minute and had a great day out on the bike :metal:

You guys literally rode though my neighborhood and not so much as a wave or ding of your HB bell.

@batwood14 117 miles! Very nice!
I ended up doing 82 miles, which turned out the right distance for me.

It was a great day for the North Shore Century - The rain missed us and the heat held off until later in the day. Our group tied our best time for the run at 5 hours 25 minutes.

Made some new friends along the way too - shout-outs to Ricardo and Baba!

Who was timing the ride and determining that? I didn’t even know it was being timed? I was with a pretty fast group and we finished in 5 hours 10 minutes (below) — the rest of that time on the graphic (above) included me riding to and from my home to the start/finish.

Anyway, I wasn’t there to race, but curious as to who/how they were keeping time …

Lone Wolf:

All sweet events - 2 on the same day unfortunately. Fall colors galore and some solid racing too.

Nice ride - our time was just from Strava (moving time)

Anyone else here doing the BWR in Traverse City?

Do you know when they release the routes? I’m getting antsy … I’ve picked out my tires, but I’m guessing they’re going to be the wrong ones.

Anyone else have ‘tentative’ tires picked out?

What tires did you go with?

I just offered my entry up but my typical tire choice in that area has a little more “paddles” or “knobs” for the sand sections.

I’m going with 700x40 Schwalbe G-One R for now … very low profile knobs. Fast rolling on hard pack and road.

Very Nice!

I was going to go with the Pirelli Cinturato H (I actually have ran these all season at every event).

Id be interested on your feed back with those G-One race!

The G-One R’s are great … but they’re performance tires that excel on a specific type of gravel: hard pack (even hard pack with a little chunk)

From the website, this is how they describe the course (I’m doing the Wafer at ~75mi / ~120km):

These tires will be perfect for: road, gravel/dirt and likely the two-track. They are going to suffer on single track and sand, but I think I’d be making a mistake if I indexed my tires to those sections which are less than 10% of the race. Thoughts?

I rode these same tires in a Michigan “gravel” race called The Divide that was predominantly two-track with LONG stretches of sand and windy descents that were loose-over-hard and the were absolutely overmatched. To be honest, Anything less that MTB tires were overmatched on that course, and it was not to my liking overall.

These tires would be perfect for The Barry Roubaix, for those who are familiar. But honestly, I’m getting the feeling that at the BWR Michigan course everyone is going to have the wrong tires on at some point … I’m trying to decide at which point it is less punitive to be wrong … ?

I’m going with the following in 40mm (measured 42.7) for the Waffle.

I’ve been riding them for 6 weeks on gravel, road, singletrack and in the wet. I like them a lot and they’re predictable.

Those look almost identical to the Schwalbe’s I’m running … although mine measure a clean 40mm wide when mounted.

If you don’t mind sharing … what psi are you running? I’m 170lbs and my rig is 16-17lbs fully loaded, and I’m still faffing around trying to find the best front/back pressure. Currently thinking 36psi in the rear, 32psi front

Great breakdown!

That’s where the dilemma came in for me - without them releasing the course its really hard to say what they are going to do.

My experience with BWR NC was they threw some rather challenging things at the participants so I expect they would do the same for Michigan. Michigan not having significant climbs like NC the best way to make it challenging IMO would be eroded seasonal roads and lots of sand.

This is pure speculation however, traverse is so much further north than Barry and right on the lake I just cant see how they wouldn’t have more sand then they are saying.

Not sure if my situation helps but actual measured width of 39mm on my Pirelli’s and 220lb rig/rider weight I would do barry at 42.5/44.5 psi on the nose. The other races in the area that are more seasonal/loose I would roll at 39/40.5 psi.

I weigh 175, bike weights 19.5. Then I’ll add 3 bottles of weight. I run 34f and 36r psi.
