Thinking about the filthy 50. Would be my first time tho.
So how was it?
It was a great race and very well organized. It was a lot of elevation gain and they had a good setup with aide stations. They almost had too many stops so you may waste too much time stopping.
I had an off day on the bike with gut issues and a lack of training with the start of the school year (Iām an IT Director for a school district.). I decided to cut the course to finish with 105ish miles. I will be back!
The Long Voyage at GravelWorlds (300 miles and 15K+ of climbing) came down to a sprint finish for 2nd and 3rd. I just canāt imagine sprinting after 17+ brutal hours in the saddle.
My Wife and I will be RIDING the Filthy 50 on our tandem.
Iceman is coming. Iām already looking forward to it. My friend is trying to talk me into The Polar Roll, not sure about that one
I wanted to share a weekend of events happening in a small town of Northwest Indiana.
I have been to these trails and they are freaking amazing!
Its like a miniature Bentonville, the trail entrance is at a huge restaurant that has a huge parking lot and also a bike shop. The trails themselves are owned/ran by the city and are really really fun flowy trails. The city has plans to connect the system to downtown where a journeyman brewery is being built and lots of small mom/pop restaurants.
Figured I would let some of you guys know, its going to be a blast and has something for everyone

Anyone in the area - these trails are also groomed in the winter for fat bike and they hold a race series during that time.
What makes the Filthy 50 so popular? A bit surprised that a gravel event in SE Minnesota would have a wait list for spots.
Not that thereās anything wrong with Minnesota. I live here, yada, yada.
Thanks for sharing this! Never would have heard of it otherwise ā¦
No problem!
I hope there are others in your boat - the locals are a real laid back lets have fun vibe!
FYI Cities/Towns on the Gray Duck Grit courses have been released. Plan now to Ride Fast & Eat Trash.
IMO, itās the guys that put it on. Trenton and crew are masters at putting on an event.
Well, Iām driving out to Indiana to race the Major Taylor CX race at the end of October. It looks really hard, but will give my family back in Indy a chance to laugh at me flailing around a CX course.
So, Iām sort of looking forward to it? Mainly Iām looking forward to going out for beer and pizza with my Dad after the race.
If youāre anywhere near Missouri, you should check out this MTB race. Start/finish is at a beautiful lake/campground. Multiple distance options, with the 50 mile being the most popular. The 100 mile is 100% singletrack, if enough people sign up. Otherwise they may change it to two laps of the 50 mile course, which includes some gravel road. Food & drinks are included all day and night after the race.
Iām looking forward to The Polar Rollā¦should be a doozy.
Chequamegon is tomorrow!! Heading up to Cable this afternoon to get checked in so I can sleep in a bit tomorrow morning. Looks like rain tonight and possibly tomorrow morning - could be a muddy mess with some big puddles. Been dry up there so if it rains maybe itāll run off leaving the trails somewhat dry at least. Hoping the rain actually holds off though.
Northshore Century in Evanston, IL this weekend.
I did it 15 years ago and it was the start of a 10 year love affair for long-distance cycling.
The last 5 years I moved away from cycling. Now that Covid is finally behind us, I want to go back to riding long distances. This is the first milestone in that process. Planning on doing 62 or 75 miles
Looks like it will be a great day for it - see you out there!
Looks like they maybe got a bit of rain this morning. Perfect for knocking down some of the dust and sand. I last raced it in 2019 and it was raining the whole week running up to the race! Honestly though, it still wasnāt all that bad in terms of mud and unridable sections.
