What workout did you do today? (2018/2019)

Carpathian Peak +2 after three days of pretty bad pain in my sacrum forced an extra recovery day. Felt better this morning so got after it and still feels OK.

15W higher NP and 60kJ more than January, set a bunch of 12-16min power PRs, same avg and max HR.

That is some very admirable mental tenacity! It might not be fun but just imagine the aerobic engine you are building!

No riding today and I won’t be riding outside the entire long weekend despite it being beautiful everyday. To say I’m annoyed is an understatement

During which I listened to the ‘What is Base?’ episode of the Empirical Cycling podcast, in which was concluded that lotsa long slow Z2 work was probably the least best way to build an aerobic engine. But it’s all I got right now. :man_shrugging:

One of my fav sessions, always a great feeling to make it out of that one alive!

I’m forever lurking TR workouts trying to find something different, this grabbed my attention. Main part of the workout is 105mins at a variable 88-95% power. Easy peasy and pretty fun. Then 1.5 hrs mountain bike skills session.

@matthiask Is Teardrop the only Crit circuit in Melbourne? I just moved down here, located in the west so far for at least 6 months, is all the cycling culture mainly in the east?

Fruita, Colorado. Over the Monument to Grand Junction and back. Spectacular scenery, in addition to a good workout of 54 miles and 5,000ft of climbing.

I was really happy with no backpedals. The last set was a real fight.

3.5 hours outside on the single speed (and only water).

Not the best HR control but it’s a work in progress.

Definitely not. We have crits all over the place during the warmer months. Footscray CC have racing 2x a week in the west.

For the second day in a row…

Have you read this thread?

And this:

…aerobically fit endurance athletes experience a decoupling rate of less than 5%.

I’ll have to take a look at my own data now!*
:slightly_smiling_face:

*[edit: crunched my 2hr indoor (power) and 3hr outdoor (speed) rides – both 0% decoupling rate.]

Cheers. Going through a hasty realisation that my FTP improvements and ability to do longer SS intervals mean nothing if I can’t manage 4-5 hours of endurance easily, which as someone who doesn’t race/TT etc is really my only endpoint at the minute. I’ve also probably missed opportunities where I should have done more base after a few weeks off so currently changing my strategy which seems to be in line what you’re up to too.

Will have a read, cheers.

That might be a false belief, and doing those longer SS intervals will most likely build your ability to do those 4-5 hours of endurance:

Coach Kolie is the real deal!

(p.s. – you didn’t ask for a rabbit hole, but you’re getting one! )

Great, cheers. I’ll have a look.

I’m a hypnotherapist, trust me I’m all for rabbit holes and altered perceptions/ realities

I broke 2 W/kg, and I’m pretty psyched about it.

Not feeling great this weekend (I’m looking at you beer and wine), so I’m easing back into the schedule. Next up: Bays first thing tomorrow morning.
