Who else is excited for GCN+?

Ended in May

Thank you so much!

Now that the XC season ends in less than a month, I signed up for GCN+. I’ve been very diligent about avoiding (and forgetting) spoilers.

I have to say, the iOS UI is really not good. Some of the Race thumbnails are flat out wrong “Women’s Elite” for the Men’s race, etc. XC racing is just under the “Mountain Biking” banner without further distinction; no real grouping by event, location, discipline, etc. Scrolling through the season only takes me back to mid June and I have to use the search function to go to the first two races. Also, the full event title is cut off and rotating the phone only shows more events and does not expand the title.

The coverage is interesting as well. For Nove Maesto, the Women’s XCC podium celebration was cut from the Women’s race and was at the start of the Men’s replay.

Red Bull UI wasn’t spectacular either, but it was also free.

I still head scratch on the Apple TV interface. Search doesn’t come up with the right results. Instead I have to scroll through race replays, which are not organized in any way I can figure out, so need to go through 100s of thumbnails to find stage 16 of the Giro, for instance, which could be anywhere since the stages aren’t in any order.

FF is still woefully implemented making it very hard to scan through long races.

The biggest issue I have with the GCN coverage is that Ric hasn’t mastered the art of not spoiling earlier races.

Very frustrating and I’ve submitted it as feedback. I really like him and Olly, and Bart, but that’s a big downvote for me. All that to say, I recommend watching in chronological order if you’re looking to not spoil any.

As far as camera work etc, it’s been pretty outstanding and more cool shots than RB had.

The U23 races are free on YT and worth watching too.

Man, I hope I don’t lose the XC coverage when GCN is sold :grimacing:

Not sure what it means for the future of GCN+, but seems like Discovery has GCN up for sale.

Anyone using the Apple TV app? It is still absolute garbage after more than a year of being out. For watching live races the FF still doesn’t work in any useful way. And this morning I tried to watch Il Lombardia and not only does FF not work at all but language cuts out after 2 seconds. And then no sound. Sigh.

Through the GCN app I can just mirror my phone without issue. I use the IPhone’s mirror function and it works. The in app mirror function doesn’t work for some reason.

Thanks! I was able to use this as a workaround after my trainer ride. During the ride I use my phone to listen to music while watching racing, and can’t do both at the same time unfortunately. I just can’t believe that they can offer an app with no useable FF function when they regularly feature multi-hour race replays!

I wrote them, and got a totally unhelpful response not related to my problem.

The key to using FF on the ATV app is to slowly use your thumb to slide across the touchpad. The slower you go, the more time you can move forward in a single swipe. Totally counterintuitive, which is just so dumb.

It still takes too long to move forward large chunks of time, but it is more functional that way.

Thanks for the reminder! I couldn’t recall if that was GCN or Peacock that did that. I do recall I could do like 20 swipes and get maybe 30 minutes. But if you did too many it would revert back to the time from which you started.

So that tells me something else was going on with Il Lombardia today, because the swiping wouldn’t work at all.

There was an Apple TV update in the last couple days that I think must have messed it up.

The fast forward has always been crappy but yesterday and today I had.

-Fast Forward not functioning at all
-No sound, then no commentary, then eventually it comes back
-When I hit pause it keeps playing but it mutes it instead. :man_shrugging:

Experienced this during Lombardia and all the XC races today.

thanks for reporting - glad I am not crazy. You are right, I did notice a big Apple TV update.

I like James but Conor just irritates me for some reason. I can’t watch his videos.

As said before the content (both racing and documentaries) is great but implementation leaves a lot to be desired.

Lack of captions, no idea what you’ve previously watched, no search function,no tags for films. All these things are easy to do and certainly not revolutionary but they’re really basic UX things to get done.
