Who else is excited for GCN+?

Care to elaborate?

That is down to the organizers, not GCN. They aren’t providing live coverage of the whole race.

Unless you mean you can’t find the Vuelta on GCN in the US….and that is because Peacock should have it since they have the rights to ASO events.

Huh. I have only been watching bike races for a little over a year but I am surprised to hear a grand tour is not broadcasting stages in their entirety.

It wasn’t until maybe the last 5 years that you got full stage coverage….maybe if there was an important mountain stage with early climbs they might show the whole thing, but it is a relatively new phenomenon.

Now, let me tell you about the days when you had to wait weeks / months to see a one hour recap of a 3 week race.

Damn kids…got off my lawn!!!

As someone who only consumes their race footage, care to explain? Their free YouTube content has never really interested me so I don’t know if your comment applies to that or something on the gcn+ side

Welcome new fans! My reaction same as @Power13 seeing an entire race or stage is a very recent phenomenon. I believe the vuelta will cover entire stages for some stages this year, but not the majority

Semi related, check out the history of the vuelta if you aren’t aware of it. Wasn’t really an international grand tour until pretty recently (at least compared to the other two)

Simon and James spent many episodes ripping Alex. Ripping his cycling race history, ripping his family, ripping the way he walks, talks, etc. I just got tired of it. Sure they teased James, but the daggers thrown at Alex seemed over the top, to me… Good natured ribbing is one thing, but to rip on him over and over again. I was shocked at how sharp/pointed the comments were, and they kept coming. Yeah, on their YouTube spots. Some of the shows should have been embarrassing. Just my opinion…

And so much of it was covering crashes and other ‘drama’. My brother told me he watched a TdF news report and said that he should start watching bike racing, ‘for the crashes’. That was from me asking the 40-something year old infant if he watched NASCAR for the accidents years prior. (He admitted he did )

I haven’t watched American coverage of racing in a couple years but when I did watch it was much more sensationalist than the Eurosport/GCN+ feed. Very focused on crashes and the drama. Perhaps that has changed, but that was originally what drove me to European feeds on tiz and others

I have been shocked at the focus of some networks ‘coverage’ of bike racing, but the old adage of ‘if it bleeds it leads’ has painfully been made obvious. Some crashes I’m left stunned. Some I’ve had tears build up. I KNOW that hurts. It’s obnoxious to have broadcasters focus on it so much. At least for those that do. But filler for a slow news day…

I feel like this may be cultural thing as, being British, their “banter” never seems overly mean/excessive to me

GCN is not the same as GCN+. I hardly ever watch GCN on youtube anymore but GCN+ (and VPN) is gold for watching bike racing.

As an American their banter is not mean/excessive. They do a great job

That’s good.

One more thing that really got me was they use(d) a crappy single cylinder motor bike/scooter to do photography during their riding scenes. YUCK! They can’t find someone who can ride along? They can’t use an e-bike? Hearing that thing coughing and wheezing along was near horrific.

But enough about GCN, I’ll look into GCN+. It would be amazing to watch more bike events. Watching TdF was interesting. My wife even watched a bit of it too which was nothing short of amazing.

It was a couple of episodes back over a year ago. They were just picking and picking at him. He would come on and make some statement about them just not understanding or something, but it looked like some of it was getting to him. shrug I just found it in bad taste. Sometimes they were funny, and there was ribbing and joking back and forth, but other times it just seemed, well, whatever… Ride on!!

I will second what was said above, you can almost consider GCN and GCN+ separate entities, none of the ads and other BS makes its way to the paid service

That’s good! And I was perhaps too severe in my post, much of their content was funny and helpful, but the teasing and ruthless ripping, I FELT, went too far. I don’t like wasting my time on YouTube content that is crap, and attacking a fellow talking head like that was not what I wanted to have as a side dish with my ‘bike porn’.

How much of the racing season is left? Is it worth it so late in the year? (The geese are flocking already , but who knows if we will have anything resembling a winter)

I don’t remember the specific video but I remember one of the presenters addressing this. They understood the environmental implications of it but listed several logistical reasons why switching wasn’t feasible (I also don’t remember the reasons).

It’s always worth it.

It’s a 12 month sub. There’s still most of the Vuelta, tour of England, still some World Cup MTB.

Plus that other muddy one CX that some people go crazy for.

Then your subscription will still be going during the classics, TdF etc etc

(You may need to also find a VPN that you’re happy with for some of the racing)

Are there any promo codes for a subscription? I tried finding the Lantern Rouge one but couldn’t find it
