Why is the plan that TR built constantly being modified?

I built a plan with TR and am in base build mode. For the past several weeks, after the first 3 days of the week, it is modified with extra rest day(s). I feel good and my HR is consistently in a good place (zone 2 primarily). What gives? Thanks an advance for any insights.

That’s the red light/green light feature, if it thinks your recent training stress is high it will recommend backing off a bit. https://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/20753792083995-Red-Light-Green-Light

If it is a new plan and you have no history with TR this is somewhat to be expected, as it won’t know what your previous training stress was like and what you can handle. Did you import old workouts, and are you coming back from a break?

If you just ignore the warnings itll get used to what volume you can handle after not too long. But it is an intentional feature, if you for example go out and do a big ride off-plan the day before a plan workout it may try to adapt the workout easier or recommend a rest day in order to reduce the chance of burnout.

Thanks to both @bobmcstuff and @TrekCentury for the replies. While I have been using TrainerRoad since 2020, the new plan, which I started 9/1, is definitely harder in terms of volume and indeed, I am coming back from a break (hernia → hernia surgery) which left me with no running for several months and no biking for 6 weeks until mid-August. So, while I tried to ramp back up some in early August, TR may not think it was enough. On days that I feel good, I will override the yellows and I will, going forward, try to honor the red warnings.

Thanks again for the timely replies.

Yup! Right on the money guys!

Going from Low Volume to High Volume and taking some time off to recover from a (hernia → hernia surgery) :persevere: the Red/Yellow Days you are experiencing are normal.

As you get through the training plan, recover, and get fitter, the amount of stress you can productively manage will change and so will the RLGL recommendations.

It is, however, important to keep in mind that RLGL is meant to prevent long-term fatigue and unproductive workouts. So it may be beneficial to accept more than not its recommendations given your scenario to prevent overdoing it
