Yellow line driving me crazy!

Am I over thinking this?

Today I did my prescribed workout which was Obelisk and it was pretty easy as it is intended to be.

I tried to maintain a steady cadence in the ranges suggested but the yellow line and watts were all over the place? My candence bounced by 1-2 up or down but not always and that dang yellow line wouldn’t stay straight.

The overall numbers averaged that I did it properly but the visual looks like I was struggling.

Any input would be app

Power is by its nature stochastic. Even in ERG mode, it will bounce around a bit. The only place it is ever completely smooth is with a Kickr that has smoothing turned on.

Moreover, there isn’t even any reason to have a completely flat / smooth line. As long as you are within a few watts of he prescribed power, you are doing the work.

Got a screenshot? I’m just curious how “all over the place” it really is and if you have some other issue, or, as others have said, you’re just used to a Kickr “lying to you”.

Honestly, you’ve got nothing to worry about. When you’re actually struggling your legs will tell you long before the yellow line bothers you.

Yeah, that’s totally normal. The Kickr just lies. Think about it, even a highly specialized machine has a hard time holding something 100% steady all the time. The reality is that watts and cadence are constantly fluctuating, You’re all good!

I’ve seen smoother, I’ve seen more wild.

Nothing to be concerned about in any way.

As you get more practiced, you will likely get better at smoothing out some of the wilder spikes that come when the power target changes.

I didn’t know it was possible to have straight lines until I saw a screenshot of someone else using a fancy trainer. I use either an old wheel on smart trainer that doesn’t hold steady, or a dumb trainer (which is actually smoother).

This looks normal to me.
