Zwift "Premium", TR Merger or Add-In speculation

A Trainerroad Killer. Outdoor workouts count, Adaptive Training, and you can still get your Tron Bike. Why stay with TR?

Asking again. Do you know for certain that Zwift is acquiring Xert? Or were you just throwing out an idea?

Not sure if Zwift is acquiring Xert, but itā€™s known Eric Min is a Xert user.

Just throwing out an idea. There would be no reason for Zwift to pay a dime for Xert IMO. Iā€™m sure Zwift could figure out their own algorithm to estimate FTP.

If Zwift does in fact offer the features that the OP posted, I think TR is in some trouble. TR is boring. Perhaps TR would merge with someone, like a Rouvy.

I think the point of the post was Zwift acquiring functionality from (or partnering with) TR. I would welcome that.

I think the only reason Zwift would be interested in TR would be their user base. I donā€™t think TRā€™s Adaptive Training is some amazing breakthrough that Zwift couldnā€™t easily do on their own. But why make an offer to TR now? Go create the new platform, peal off a bunch of TR users, and in a year or two, make a fire sale offer to TR.

If the last 11-ish months since TR debuted AT tells me anything, itā€™s than none of this is ā€œeasyā€. Z may well be capable with the right people, but itā€™s not some automatic jump to a functional setup.

Thereā€™s so little here we really have no idea whatā€™s happening, if anything at all.

It could be simple, depending on how AI-ish Zwift wants to make it. Xert already does a good job of serving up workouts in real time, based on what youā€™ve done, where you want to go, training load, etc, and thereā€™s no AI involved at all. Zwift could develop a Xert-like system in no time, and then add in a smidgeon of AI so as not to be lying when they splash the ā€œAIā€ all over the adverts.

Have a look at the original post and the follow ups. Zwift asked their customers if they would like to use TR in partnership.

Also, as Lama pointed out, Min was in Reno.

I agree that itā€™s not a done deal, but thereā€™s no denying itā€™s being considered.

I donā€™t think heā€™s actually an Xert user. I know he did sign up to Xert a while back and try it out (See his strava workouts then). But I donā€™t think heā€™s an actual user.

just be aware, that you can be a Xert user, and not use the workout player ā€¦ exporting the workouts to zwift/trainerday or training peaks, and then doing the workout on a Garmin/Karoo/Wahoo or even TR, you wonā€™t get the smart intervals, but still most of the other functionality

I still think about the Instagram post of Jonathan a few days ago when he showed his new Peleton treadmill - TR reposted it. He already uploaded some Peleton runs on Strava.
If someone like Jonathan with the (most probably) largest social media range shows that he uses a competitor product, it tells something.
Either that TR is opening up to competitors (lincencing of AT) or they want to show Zwift (if negotioations are ongoing) that there are more potential players to partner.
Iā€˜m very excited.

@Raedlefahrer Or Jonathan knows that TR will no time soon step up their running game and he hence bought something that works. Thatā€™s would at least be my take.

Lots of comparisons to different softwares here, I do wonder if each product has its place at certain times.

Almost 2 years to the day I wrote in my training diary ā€œno more TrainerRoad, itā€™s not motivating me to trainā€. But 5 weeks ago having seen the changes theyā€™d made and needing to find some consistency I started my subscription up again opting for the medium volume polarised plan. I did this mainly because all the other options plans were terrible.

Initial thoughts ok, the TR product had certainly made some positive changes but this soon changed to boredom and I went back to Zwift and got stuck into the endurance group rides to build my fitness.

Iā€™ve never met anyone who has gone through the training phases that TR has and Iā€™ve ridden with and against some pretty quick riders, many of those at 4.5, some pushing 5wkg.

Zwift training plans for me seem a mess, same with SYSTM, TR is better thought out but like I say boredom soon creeps in unless youā€™re mixing with other media but for me personally I struggle with more than one thing at a time!

The ultimate package for me would be the group rides and racing option of Zwift, (perfect for longer endurance and adding some intensity) with the training plans of TR (despite what I said above) but with those workouts set to the back drop of the SYSTM visuals.

That setup looks unlikely though.

He still had a Xert breakthrough on a Strava workout a short while ago

I think that could be a bug. I left Xert and months later my Strava rides were still saying ā€œXert Breakthroughā€. I have no idea why. I went and disconnected Strava/Xert to try to stop it and havenā€™t seen one in a while.

Itā€™s taking them long enough just to enforce ZwiftPower categories. Iā€™d be amazed if they were anything near something like AT or Xert.

It took zwift multiple years to get the ā€œsave your rideā€ button to not completely exit you out of the programā€¦

Indeed. Their pace of development had been anything but quick from the beginning, but so much worse in the latest years.

Thats one reason I would expect them to outsource this one way or another, assuming they want to offer anything in the ā€œnearā€ future. You knowā€¦ zoon.
