Zwift Updates - 2023

Digging the Coffee Stop and Teleport features…much requested / needed.

Will be nice to not have to exit the game to change robogroups after warming up, etc.

ETA - and the Rider Highlight feature, too… :raised_hands:t2: :raised_hands:t2: :raised_hands:t2:

Yeah, this seems like a nice set of new features.

Finally a nature break! But it is unclear if you cam use them in organized group rides? The release wasnt really clear on that.

Join other Zwifters and ride through these two new portals to experience some of the real world’s most famous climbs. This new addition to Zwift will put you in a totally new Zwift environment with a completely new visual experience, but which still replicates real world places. Zwifters will get to test themselves on legendary grades and iconic switchbacks with other riders.

At launch, two of the climbs available through the portal will be Col du Tourmalet and Col d’Aspin, both storied for their prominence in some of history’s most exciting bike races. Other climbs will be available as well.

I’ve wanted this for so long.

Segment Portal seems interesting to me. Curious what climbs they add on.

I’m curious about the visual experience of the ride. Seems they are aiming for a minimalist approach that takes less work doing art and such. Wonder if it will mimic Magic Roads in RGT?

It will be possible if the group leaders enable it (confirmed via Zwift source)

Two identified: Tourmalet and Col D’Aspin.

That was my thought. I seems like their response to Magic Roads.

A step in that direction, but sounds like it will still only be accessible via Zwift adding routes. Could be a first step in the option of allowing users to do their own route, but the slow pace of Z progression leads me to not expect open user routes in the near future.

Yeah I don’t anticipate urgency on this. I doubt Zwift is bleeding a noteworthy number of customers to RGT.

On the Zwift forum in the past week or two they specifically said the “people creating their own routes” approach is not one they were taking. Of course, that could have been a bluff.

Once upon a time, Zwift also said they had no interest in racing…

No idea what will happen, but they have changed their tune on this and more over time.

Indeed. The future is unwritten. We can only watch it as it comes fast approaching.

I’m wondering if the “new visual experience” is a trial for a new graphics engine, as well. It seems like their new development is hamstrung by a lot of legacy code and a portal-type thing would be a great way to get a pilot out there without breaking anything. I’m very curious to see the size of this update when it comes out.

I was wondering the same, but I think it either simply means “it won’t look like Watopia,” or it’s going to be an evolution of the Alpe climbing UI.

This bit from the FAQ leads me to believe that the graphics on the portal climbs beyond the roads will be pretty sparse in detail / minimal, but i guess we’ll have to wait to see.

“Zwit has created a completely new visual experience that gives you the chance to focus on the climb, and enjoy the company of other Zwifters. We can’t wait for you to see it!”
