We have all heard of 80 grams of carbs per hour on the bike.
Does it apply for a gym session?
What do you guys do for nutrition while at the gym?
Water
I don’t think so but it might depend on what you’re doing in the gym. Just lifting weights I never expended more calories than could be satisfied by liver/muscle glycogen.
Some strongman stuff can be sort of intense…I’m thinking farmer’s walk workouts, sled dragging, tire flipping. And there was a period where I did a lot of Inman Mile work. Definitely that stuff is more calorie intense than just snatch, clean, squat stuff but probably never more than 700 calories of work.
So I doubt you really need to consume any carbs during strength training workouts.
Not necessary. Some carbs are good, if going over 60-70min of training. Probably half the rate of consumption of what might be optimal on the bike.
Absolutely not. The advice for 80-100g per hour is only for maximal, multi hour efforts. Long races, Triathlons etc. It’s NOT something you aim for on every exercise session. The amount you consume during a workout is dependant both on it’s length and intensity.
The advice that Amber has given is “pre-workout, plus during workout, plus post workout” should equal (roughly) expenditure in workout.
