Australians - where are you buying fructose

Australians! Where are you buying fructose powder? I had an Amazon subscription for around 10AUD per kg, but their prices have doubled. I can’t seem to find anywhere else that sells bulk powder at a reasonable price.

I’ve tried using white sugar before but it doesn’t work as well with my gut, but I’m going to have to try again because the cost is so high!

Don’t know about the fructose sorry, but I’m a big fan of the low cost and ease of use of the Coles brand caster sugar.

is that the lotus brand? that’s what I buy too, can’t really find much else in Australia

Yep, the lotus one. Cheapest I’ve found is: Shop Lotus Fructose (Fruit Sugar) 1kg | Buy Organics Online
Shipping cost is okay, but not free.

Lotus is the only brand I’ve seen available too. Lots of malto options.

Cole’s White sugar @ $2/kg - If I’m feeling flash I’ll splash out for the castor sugar

yeah, but see above - I’ve found straight sugar rough on my gut for whatever reason, as compared to 2:1 malto and fructose.

Same, for training now I tend to use just malto and a scoop of Powerade (plus the occasional Pure honey gel) and for races Precision Hydration stuff. On another note, why is Gatorade powder not in Coles or Woolies any more, is it the same where you are?

I can get staminade and Powerade but not Gatorade. Seems like the prices of everything have gone up lots. Even electrolyte tablets are 50% more expensive.

You could try buying a bag of Maltrodextrin and adding one part to every 2 parts of table sugar.

This would give you a 1:1:1 ratio of Fructose:Glucose:Maltrodextrin

(Similar to 2:1 in sports drinks)

I get mine from Amazon. Yeah there prices fluctuate but I only buy it when its cheaper, 1kg now is $11.85. I have Amazon Prime so free delivery.

I’ve tried this before and found it too sweet/rough on the gut. Tried it again this morning and had similar results. Perhaps it’s something I could build a tolerance to? I can easily tolerate 120g/hr of 2:1 malto:fructose but somehow the table sugar makes it different :man_shrugging:

That’s wild! I had an Amazon sub set up for fructose for a couple of years and the price was stable. When my order came up most recently the price was up to $22/kg, hence the post. Thanks for letting me know that it’s back down now

building a tolerance is fairly normal, often hear about “training the gut”

I always add about 40-50ml lemon juice to my mix and 1/2 teaspoon of salt (950ml bottle)

Actually after hearing @Jonathan speak about caffeine on a recent podcast i made up my first bottle with a strong black coffee😀

Achieved a new 60min Power PR without trying😂

I have prime - looks like no free delivery?

Yeah, just saw that, the 500gm is free delivery but a bit more expensive if you buy 2.

Have you tried 50g malto and 70g sugar? Also how often are you using 120g per hour? You must be putting out some serious power!

I haven’t tried that. I’m aware that 2:1 glucose:fructose is already not considered optimal, and I’m keen to not get further from that than I already am! I’ll have 120g/h on SST days and threshold days.
