Dextrose/Maltodextrin?

Hello all,

May have been covered but i have been following Jonathan’s drink mix of 2:1 Dextrose/Fructose plus a little Salt and Sodium Alginate making around 80g of carbs per bottle. And love it!

Stupidly went to restock ingredients and purchased Maltodextrin instead of Dextrose… don’t particularly want to waste money so can I use this with Fructose as before to make a similar 2:1 mix or will I notice differences between the two in either performance delivery or health? Or would It be better used in my 3:1 carb/protein recovery shake?? Or shall I swallow my pride and Chuck and order Dextrose?

Any advise would be much appreciated!

Thanks

For what it’s worth I use a 2:1 mix of Maltodextrin:Fructose and it works great (for me). You can Google the differences between the two, but as far as mixture to use on the bike, I think many people (including myself) use the Malto:Fructose mix. Just make a small batch and try it. If you don’t like it, use the rest for your recovery shake or whatever else you want. If you like it (or even prefer it) then it’s experimentation for the win. Happy experimenting.

This thread and at least one other are full of people sharing their experience and mixes. Make SIS BETA fuel yourself just a few pence per bottle

I’m sure it’ll be fine. I use a 1 : 0.8 Maltodextrin : Fructose + salt and sodium alginate mix to copy Maurten.

There are some differences between dextrose and maltodextrin, but at the end of the day they’re both a source of glucose, and you should be fine. I mixed my own maltodextrin and fructose (2:1 ratio) for about a year before starting to use Last Mile Endurance. It’s a little more expensive than DIY, but I can get a 90g pouch, and the separate electrolyte lets me tailor the sodium levels to what I like (~1,200mg per bottle).

I use maltodextrine:fructose and it’s great.

How much salt do you use per bottle?
