Anyone have any free alternative suggestions to My Fitness Pal? In the past have I used My Fitness Pal for a couple months every couple of years just to remind myself what I’m putting in my body and what to stay away from and I was planning on doing that again this April. I just reinstalled the app and logged in and was disappointed to find out I need to pay so was wondering if there are any other free options out there that work. If not I guess I will bite the bullet and pay for a month. Just hate having to pay for something else that used to be free. On a side note does anyone have a good recommendation on a food scale.
Thank you!
I’ve used Lose It! off and on for a few years. I think the free version works pretty well - though I have been paying the last couple of years.
Came to post the same thing, some of the features are locked behind a paywall but the barcode scanning works and it’s easy to use.
Lose It works better for me than MFP. I recently paid again after not using it for 2 years. No idea how the free one works.
I used Cronometer last time I tracked. It’s been a while now, but it seemed to get the job done, and from what I recall the trade off for the free version is putting up with ads.
Cronometer is kind of a lot, it was really useful when I was going WFPB because it would break down the individual amino acid content of some foods so you could see how much leucine and what not, but again it was a lot.
I just signed up for MFP yesterday. I don’t mind paying if I’m getting value from the service. I tried MyNetDiary but didn’t like the UX.
I really like the MFP macronutrients view and the Garmin integration. I’m on the month to month plan but I may switch to annual, as this is the first time I’ve every really tracked my nutrition.
2 days in but I’m finding MFP easy to use, with little friction.
Agree. That said, I only used it to see if I was getting enough protein (while sort of paying attention to the other macros and total calories in/out for fun) and didn’t find that all the extra functionality got in my way at all.
Lose It! Several years ago, they had a deal on lifetime which I took. Does what I need and better, imo, than fitness pal.
I’ve been using MFP for the last couple of weeks. The free version. Seems to be fine?
Another Lose It! fan - I’ve had the app installed for like 15 years now. I first used it to lose 30 pounds by simply calorie counting.
Every time I use Lose It! I marvel at how much they still give away for free. The nags aren’t horrible.
Thanks everyone!
I used the free version of MFP. It works fine for me.
Macrofactor is infact the best.
Hi all. Slight thread detour. Is there any way to get Lose it! Data pushed into/from TrainingPeaks - or indeed move some of my other metrics (sleep from Apple Health, glucose from Supersapiens, though obvs that’s a long shot!) into/from Lose it?
Thanks!
I believe that Lose It has some Apple Health integration. Can you get TrainingPeaks to pull from there?
MFP user here, while the app seems to be a bit lacking, the database of meals is what I find hugely useful.
I use Gousto meal kits and find most meals are already on there. Not having to check labels and manually fill out macros is what enables me to track so consistently.
Does Loseit! have a comparable database?
Same here. I’ve been using it for 10 years and don’t feel like I’m missing anything necessary by not using the paid version.
Irritatingly it’s quite limited in what goes between Apple Health and Lose It
I’ve tried MFP and honestly thought it was awful. The inability to simply input everything by grams was a deal breaker for me.
Carb manager free version has been great for me.
