Spouses who ride

I saw something similar but not quite. so here I am asking.
My wife got on my road bike for her first bike ride in 13 years since a tragic bike accident as a child (not road relating, think kids being kids)
Long story short, she loved it and wants to get her own bike. So now my N+1 is N+N+1. which is great.
To my surprise though she said, I want a trainer and to do the indoor training you do.
GREAT. no problem, let’s do it. so my question.
For all of you in dual indoor training/trainerroad relationshipers. What’s your set up like? do you have two trainers with bikes on them? do you alternate 2 bikes on one trainer? something different? any thought, suggestions, inputs on how to best do 2 people doing indoor training?

Recommend the Kickr bike. Easy adjustment for multiple users and minimal space compared to multiple bikes and trainers.

We’re fortunate to have space and budget for 2 separate bike, trainer and TV setups. We train separately but our rides overlap on the weekend mornings. Just dead simple to always have each bike isolated and able to be ridden at any moment without swapping bikes or settings on a shared smart bike.

Basically up to date picture of it setup (she replaced her QR with a Cervelo P5). Each have two Laskos, though if I’m riding alone I’ll steal one of hers for a third. The bikes face one TV that you can’t see. She runs Zwift on the TV and I use my iPad on my desk for TR. If you have the money and space, each having a dedicated setup is well worth it. Not having to move bikes around and getting things just so greatly reduces the activation energy to train, and we ride together indoors as much as we can. If you don’t have the space, definitely go for a smart bike unless you can promise that you’ll both have the same drivetrains for years going forward (or I guess the new Zwift Hub One would work).

This is what I was looking for. Thanks yall. The setups look sick. It made sense in my head to do. Just needed some confirmation I’m not crazy.

We don‘t have the space for two setups and also don‘t ride together. We have one Kickr and switch bikes. Takes some minutes, but not too much time either.

We used to have one turbo and two bikes. It was doable, but a pain. After a short while we bought a second turbo and life was simpler and better!

We never ride together indoors, so a single computer/screen setup works for us.

The best way to ruin something you love is to include your wife .

My wife rides mostly indoors. For years, I swapped bikes off a Tacx Neo but when it died (overheating) I brought a KICKR. Then, I decided to get another KICKR for my wife — side by side in the garage. It is a lot less hassle although more money. No more, “I am ready to ride, can you swap bikes?”

We have 2 trainers each with a bike more or less permanently set up, and a treadmill besides that. One PC and one TV to serve it all. Used in all sorts of ways - training app running on the PC or an iPad, media streaming on the PC, the TV and/or iPad.

We can train together (does not happen that often) or not.

I’d have your spouse use your trainer for a month or two to know that they will actually use it, then go spend some money

Don’t want to derail the thread, so I’ll just say you can sure look at Chad’s pic and see which setup is his and which is his partner’s!:dash:

Definitely a demonstration that no single solution suits everyone

We never use our breakfast room, so we use it for cardio. There’s room for 3 setups there. My wife has a Peloton that sits next to my trainer bike on a Neo. There is an elliptical trainer on the other side of me. I want to get rid of it (hasn’t been used in years but I don’t want to have people coming in my home to test ride) and put in a treadmill. I have a large screen TV for streaming in the middle of the wall.

Due to schedules, we can’t train together during the week. I’m 5’11. my wife 6’2" When we first started training seriously about 6-7 years ago, we had an “in-between” old bike on an Elite Direto and swapped seatposts/saddles. Once one of our sons started getting serious a few years later (6’4" then, 6’8" now), i got a 1st generation Neo Bike (serial # was less tha 100), since that was all that was available at the time. With the various QA ossues, currently on bike #4, which has been good for over 2 years.

If you and your wife arent going to be training at the same time, and bike size/set ups are markedly different, either a 2 bike/trainer set up like others have shown or a smart bike is a big time saver. If youre adding a 3rd (and, in our case, soon to be 4th), smart bike for sure. If i was shopping now. Id probably go with the Kickr Shift

Two trainers, two bikes. We only have one fan on the permanent set up but can bring in more if needed.

This is incredible. Though I think your home gym is more square feet then my whole house.

Love all the pics and tips. Thanks all!

We also have a single fan, but it’s a large industrial one on a 1-meter stand, and since the room is rather small (the 2 trainers + treadmill are a snug fit), the fan can cover anywhere in the room.
