I usually keep the Zwift one but upload my TR ride as a picture because I like TR.
if it’s one of the badass TR workouts, I will keep it TR.
This is what I’m doing, or trying. Sometimes Strava seems to combine the rides - I have Zwift titled ride with a TR screenshot(!)
Also, although I’m not that interested in HR, Zwift captures it from my Apple Watch where TR doesn’t.
Whichever one controls the trainer gets kept.
If it’s a TR workout in Zwift I send the TR file to Strava, TP etc. I also record on a Garmin and it’s usually that file I use and download to use in Golden Cheetah. If it’s a Zwift event/race that’s the one that gets shared around the sites I save the rides on and downloaded for GC.
So like quite a few on here I’ve been running Zwift and TR simultaneously for several years however since December whenever I fire up the apps like I’ve done in the past (TR first, then Zwift), Zwift just crashes on me. It’s not mega important but would be nice to get working again as it helps keep me going at times!
I don’t think it’s the hardware, I’m on a 2016 Macbook Pro with plenty of memory and on OSX Mojave still which like I said all used to work!
Anyone else been having issues running both in recent times?
Out of interest what do you find so difficult about the workouts? Or is this in relation to the odd workout here and there?
By crash, do you mean Zwift does, or just loses connection to your devices?
If you haven’t tried already, I’d consider a full uninstall and reinstall. I’ve had to do it a couple of times on one PC over the last 2 years.
Yeah, full on crash, can connect to devices, load a course, within a minute or so it crashes out. Will try a re-install of Zwift and see if that helps though its self updating so should be the latest version.
Does Zwift crash if you launch it without TR running?
No it works ok, not that I use it on its own much…
OK, was just wondering for a data point, and curious if there is some unintended interaction.
I am still having success with PC, 2 USB ANT+ sticks and running both apps (launch TR 1st, Z 2nd like you) together.
I know some other people who have had a range of issues lately, and they seem more likely when you are also using Bluetooth.
Using ANT+ for Z, BLE for TR on Win10. Not having any issues (particularly since I moved both antennas closer to the trainer). Starting Z first, it grabs ANT+, disconnect the trainer control; then starting TR, it defaults to BLE. Runs smoothly.
I used to do the opposite (ANT+ for TR), by disabling BT in TR, starting TR first, and then Z. Also worked.
If your goal is getting faster then a long-term commitment to a structure plan is what you need. I found Zwift’s training plans to be very short-term oriented and the process, progression through a plan is terrible. They haven’t built any flexibility or ways to personalize the plan to your schedule/commitments. That’s why for all my serious training I am using TrainerRoad - it is really designed around athletes to help make us better/stronger/faster - and it is built around long-term gains, not just a quick bump in your FTP.
I still ride Zwift when I want to just spin my legs or do some base miles with a group ride etc, but my ‘real’ training is all TR.
I’ve been running Zwift with my TR workouts recently - I’m still not 100% onboard with it, I guess my main take is that it is very distracting. This can obviously be a good thing if that’s what you need, for example today I had 90mins of Andrews and having Zwift on made it go in alot quicker. However if you need to focus on your workout (esp if you’re not on Erg mode) then it might take your concentration away from smashing the intervals
- That is certainly possible, and likely parallel to other forms of visual input (racing videos, POV riding, movies, TV shows, etc.)
- I also think it is something that you get used to a bit over time. Like anything new, it can take more attention to a negative in some cases, but if you stick with it, that fades.
I use a 40" TV just 28" from my head, and use the first person view for most of my riding in Zwift. It gets me more “into” the world and I feel more like I am riding in the environment, and among the other riders. I use the other riders as rabbits for motivation, even though I am usually in ERG mode just following a TR workout. I just keep them in mind and use them to keep me rolling a bit when it gets really difficult in the intervals.
This is likely true, I’ve only done 4 or 5 Zwift rides, so still taking it all in, fiddling with the companion app etc
That’s a good shout, going to try it tomorrow. (Wright Peak -1)
This is a good idea - except for group rides and races, since your rider’s position is the main cue to tell if you’re in the draft or not, and you lose this cue in first-person view.
Yup, I used the 1st person for my training when driven from TR workouts.
For races in particular, I do use the 3rd person view for pack location. I don’t have a problem drafting in the 1st person view (I learned the spacing needed), but watching for moves from others is impossible.
I do a mix within non-race group rides. I use the 1st person whenever I can, to make it feel more like a group event. But I sometimes switch to 3rd person for places where I expect any moves that I want to respond to quickly.
I’ve been running TR on an old laptop via Ant and Zwift on my iPad for about six months. I just moved my trainer setup back inside where I can run it with my iMac. I ran it yesterday for the first time with Z and TR on the same machine. Zwift looks sooooooo much better on a more capable machine, and I liked the workout text integration with Zwift.
All that said, I noticed that TR seems to steal all the pairing options from Z. Not a big deal with the trainer, since I run powermatch, but Z wouldn’t pair my Tickr at all. I had both BLE and Ant available. But it appeared TR took both connections from the HRM and the trainer. And oddly I had two different signals available from my Vectors… never had that before…
Wondering if I also need to completely load Z, then load TR once Z is all paired up? I need this to be clean in one shot since I’m usually pinched for time as is.
I run zwift and trainerroad together. Trainerroad on my phone controlling everything via Bluetooth and zwift on my laptop reading my cadence and power from my power meter via ant+.
Quite frankly, I wish I would have started this last year. It has made passing the time so much easier. 1-1.5 hour workouts seem to fly by now, and paired with some other forms of entertainment I’ve been able to knock out some of much longer endurance rides (did a 5 hour ride last weekend). Some of the events and rides available on zwift have helped to keep the motivation up through my base season this far.
Its your computer (ram) as i have that problem when I try to run too many programs on my imac. When I do zwift, tr no problem. If I add in netflix via google chrome or something like that it crashes as well.
