I am on Windows 10, but the hogging of connections is the same. As you thought, loading and pairing Z before TR works just fine
You can disable BLE in TR, then start TR first. It will take ANT+ and leave BLE alone for Zwift. Conversely, you canāt disable channels in Zwift, but it will leave BLE alone if you start it first and connect ANT+ sensors only. I used the former way for a while, now use the latter.
Thanks guys. I want to get this squared away seamlessly so I donāt waste time as I have this weekend. Appreciate the info.
Zwift goes to Strava (b/c of the more realistic milage), TR to TR and Garmin. (I donāt use TP).
Yup, I run Zwift and TR parallel on a Win 10 PC. Zwift uses a Bluetooth-Dongle to connect to HR and Tacx Neo for Power and Cadence, but NOT the āControllableā Box. TR uses an ANTĀ±Dongle for HR and the full connection incl. control of the neo. Use TR in the āminimalā workout-mode wich works great! Itās genius that the text is still able to be overlaid onto Zwift or any other app.
I find that having my cheeky Zwift Avatar in front of me gives me a bit more motivation, also the visual queues (up that slope, until that corner, oh, a sprintā¦) help sometimes. Iām aware that it is a luxury though, If financially pressed I could get rid of Zwift (I thinkā¦). No question that the TR Workouts and their planning is way ahead of Zwift.
Iām not convinced itās that, itās got 16mb of Ram and even with nothing else open it crashes, there may be an issue with its memory usage (Zwift that is) but its not for a lack of memory.
Well that is what I thought as it happened to me like I said and figured it could be the same for you.
So just an update to my previous post as Iāve changed my set up slightly and it works really well now.
Apple TV for Zwift. Iām using a CABLE device to grab the ANT+ signal from my PM & HRM and covert to BTLE for Zwift. Use the companion app on my iPhone to pair devices to Zwift. Displaying everything on a 32" TV in front of bike/trainer.
Amazon Fire HD 10 for TrainerRoad. This gets the BTLE signal from the PM, HRM & KICKR. Tablet mounted on arm that extends off the front of the handlebars.
I start TR first and make sure the 3 devices pair, then I start the Zwift companion app after that. Otherwise if I start the Zwift app first it will grab the raw BTLE signals from the devices (which I will use if Iām just running Zwift for a race or group ride) so nothing is available to TR.
Then as a 3rd distraction Iāll also usually have a podcast in my ears, except for ramp test or race, then itās some heavy music.
I agree but Iāve been caught out a few times aiming for the top or a virtual zwift hill and getting ready for the descent but then realizing that Iāve still got 1min of a TR threshold effort to go!
Yep, happens all the time. Or the other way round: Hilltop is a few 100 meters away, but the TR Interval has ended
Yup, like every interval. Thatās the ābadā of running them side by side. I get lost in the Zwifting and sometimes have to rally to an interval thatās not over just because I crested a climb.
I also like when surges or sprints and microbursts happen as Iām passing someone. Itās funny to see people kick up their effort to stay on my wheel and then I just Peter out because the interval is over. I always assume theyāre laughing at me and thinking how weak I am. Until I blow past them a minute later on the next interval.
What routes are good for a ramp test?
I run TR on the iPad (bluetooth) and Zwift on the PC (Ant+) with an Elite Direto.
For a ramp test I would want a route that starts going up hill after 5-10 mins and doenst run out of hill before I finish working (say 22min). I could do Alpe du Zwift but not sure if I would be on the climb before the ramp test starts.
What do you mean by Tour de France relive?
If you choose the Jungle Circuit route and then manually choose the right turn towards Alpe, you should should be there within 10-15 Minutes (warmup) and then hit the climb for the Ramp Test.
I have several, the Volcano orbit is my favourite, I donāt start the clock until Iām in the volcanoā¦laps around the 7.5 mins for first orbit, 7 for second then 6 for third. Finish line is around 19-20 minutes, thatās always a good carrot.
You could always tweak this by taking a detour up the volcano on lap 2 by doing the volcano reverse.: Start test straight away, probably 4 minutes to get inside volcano from spawn point (turning right) for Volcano, 8 minute first lap then go for climbā¦normally a 8 minute climb (for me). Having a finish line can draw that final bit out of you and stop you quitting earlyā¦ Times approx above, its a case of trial and error for your own power/weightā¦
As stated above the jungle circuit, but if you donāt do the turn you end up on the jungle climb out after a few more minutes. I time it so i come around to the finish line, again another carrot, but final couple of minutes are down hill, but I have jersey to shoot for so I donāt mind that.
The Epic KOM reverse normally lasts me 20ish minutes for a climb, use to use that one for the 20 minute test but Iāve never done a ramp on that oneā¦ nice finish line at the top and a jersey, which Iāve worn many times!! (normally when Watopia was off calandar!)
As you can see I like a finish line as a target, some times I fall short and if I make it there I am on my last few crank turns, Iāve done APZ and thereās no finish line, but Iāve used corners as a carrot.
Hopefully thatāll give you some ideas, if you find another that works well, let us know!
In Germany you can watch the Tour de France on demand the whole year without any cost:

Es scheint, dass Sie in Deutschland sein mĆ¼ssen, damit dies funktioniert.
I like to select the jungle route, but then do an immediate u-turn and head up the reverse epic KOM. You start climbing very quickly this way,
Ive been toying with this idea as well- picking various Zwift courses for the TR workout I need to do. Then I can use a Climb as wellā¦ Thoughts???
Cant tell if this was covered here or not. Looked, but Im not 100% sure.
Goal: To ride Zwift, with Zwift in full control of the trainer, with a Climb, while doing a TR workout.
Thoughts on how to do this: Use my Garmin to capture my ANT+ PM and HR signals, disable GPS and use TR as a āoutside rideā. Connect BT to Zwift for PM, HR, Kickr and Climb to adjust terrain and more āroad-likeā intervals (ie. just having to deal with undulations, etc). Orā¦ I can pick the course that offers me the best workout for the TR prescribed workout. Similar to what Id actually do outside.
Anyone mess with this???
