What brand of maltodextrin do you use in your homemade sports drink?

I had a disappointing experience with ordering some nutricost organic malto on Amazon and can’t find any matlo in shops around me. Does anybody have some brands that they can suggest? The ones I’m seeing in searches are: Hey boo, N-zorbit, prescribed for life. Any experiences with these?

I second this, I like the bulk products. Their fructose is also good, as is the whey protein (I use natural / unflavored).
Also for recovery drinks I prefer oat powder (instant oats), which I get off of myprotein.com

I’m also a Myprotein fan, I use the oats, whey, creatine and cacao nibs :trophy:

This is the one I use. NOW Sports Nutrition, Carbo Gain Powder (Maltodextrin), Rapid Absorption, Energy Production, 8-Pound https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0013OUNRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JNXN9BJEJCQEJ7VQ5MN3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I use Amacx Maltodextrin. Looks like a Dutch brand to me.

I experience a lot of clumping. I always add water first and maltodextrin after that. I start shaking as soon as I closed my bottle but I cannot prevent clumping. Does anyone have any idea how to prevent that? Any experiences with other brands?

I do it the other way around. Maltodextrin first. Sometimes I mix with a little hot water from the kettle and then top up with cold but either way I generally make them the night before and leave them in the fridge overnight and don’t have any issues that way.

Bulk and MyProtein. Bulk usually has better promotions but recently they have a stock problem. My preference is bulk as their packaging looks nicer

I started with Bulk but as a lot of other people have said couldnt get any due to supply problems. I then found Peak Supps which I chose purely on the basis that they had stock that I was able to purchase.

That is literally the only criteria that I have.

re the clumping, the nature of the product means that it doesnt dissolve straight away. I mix mine anywhere between first thing in the morning to about an hour before I am due to get on the bike. Initially there are always clumps but once it settles a little it dissolves naturally into the water.

What was the specific issue with the nutricost organic malto?

I used MyProtien from Amazon.

For what it’s worth there was a forum member on here recently that posted a whole bunch of research that suggests a closer to 1:1 ratio works better. They also suggested that simply using table sugar (which is 1:1) with your favorite Gatorade mix should work great and is super cheap. I recently ran out of maltodextrin, and Amazon didn’t have any in stock, so I thought I’d give table sugar a try. I didn’t notice any negative effect and in fact I felt pretty darn good on the 1:1 ratio. I ended up using it for the last week of my ssb mv and the whole first half of my suspb mv. I’m 70kg and 296ftp.

Thanks. I will prepare my bottles earlier next time and see if it helps!

I found pieces of wood and what I guessed was a rubber glove in the container. Return to Amazon is now in process.

Initial clumping is normal with maltodextrin, I experienced it even when I was spending a lot of money on First Endurance EFS Pro. Using a little warm water seems to make the clumps break up faster, as does pre-wetting (adding a little water and swishing it around so that all the powder is wet before adding more). It also goes away on its own in about 10 minutes or so, I think.

Wow that’s terrible. I’m getting a container in the mail today from Amazon. I will check it thoroughly. Thanks for the heads up.

It’s almost a non-issue issue as there are so many ways around it as long as you are aware that its going to happen. I just prefer the doing it earlier method because it fits in nicely with my attempts to be prepared prior to getting on the bike. Though I still run around like a loon trying to do most things at the last minute.

I have used maltodextrin from myprotein and when I couldn’t order it from them (out of stock?) I got a 12 lb bag from Now Foods. I get my whey isolate from Myprotein and like their stuff.
