What’s your favourite “marginal gain”?

My best kept secret has been using TrainerRoad . It has marginally gained my FTP by 96 watts in the past 9 months.

Come back when you have something truly meaningless :stuck_out_tongue:
(nice work BTW)

I will share my recent nutrition test…

  • Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans :chocolate_bar: :coffee:

Likely too little caffeine and too much sugar for the size, but fun and tasty for sure. The flavor (bitter) is a nice contrast to my other chews, gels and drinks (mostly sweet). I look at them as a reward between sets for some motivation too.

Somebody else probably tried it already. But please, someone here try too and tell me I’m crazy, or I may just keep doing it

JHow, the 80mm wheels I use are Chinese carbon wheels from Farsports

Curious what your experience is going to be. I found mine quite susceptible to big holes from race numbers. I guess I’m trying 3m Super 77 next race.

@chancie.cycles It’s very comfortable. And yes, it looks a bit silly in all black—especially with leg warmers—but it is what it is.

My first race in the suit was last weekend, and I really liked it! Felt super fast! I used the 3m super 77 spray to stick my number on, and then did a safety pin in each corner just for some peace of mind. Hopefully the holes from the safety pins wont prove to be a big deal.

Have you ever had the need to double-pin race numbers? Does 3m super 77 still work (I imagine you would just glue the number for the second race and then pin the second number on top?)

I had my first outside ride having rebuilt my outside bike with di2 and swapping to a waxed chain. The bike has never felt this good and this quiet!

Also I’m really liking having the bike setup as true sequential. Easier on the left, harder on the right. Feels right.

You can definitely see the difference in drag Vs the people around you!

I always race without a dust cover on my front wheel valve stem both for weight saving and aero gains

I got one fitted to each of my two club skinsuits. Top quality job and after some practice I can insert the number without taking the suit right off, just peel the top down and do it behind me, by feel. Great for open TT events where you can attach your own number without having to find a “pinning volunteer”.

And definitely worth a few watts!

Backpedaling from initial statement…

Don’t worry it doesn’t actually enhance performance at least not more than caffeine does

A comparison of caffeine versus pseudoephedrine on cycling time-trial performance.

THANK YOU  :grinning:! Wow, what a great recommendation. Amazing book and it already helped me sleep on day one. This could be a life changer and that’s not hyperbole!

Need to change my answer to orthotics. I expected the comfort but, I didn’t expect the increase in power.:muscle:

Which orthotics did you go with, how do they feel and how does it change your ride? Does it make the shoe fit/feel better? I’m considering orthotics at the moment.

They are called Sole Support. No idea how one would get them except through a doctor. They are cycling specific for me (my weight) and taken/made from a cast made from foam. It feels like the sole of the shoe is part of my foot and when I apply pressure it’s more focused on/near the ball of my foot which is where it should be…

I think for those that have really high arches and/or feet that are “unique” this is a good avenue to explore. Not necessarily Sole Support but, orthotics in general.

Feeling fast is my favorite thing when I brake out the toys. A fresh shave of the legs, tied with my matching bike, racing wheels, and racing helmet pumps me up. Its not how you ride, its how you arrive. I could be doing this wrong…

Can you expand on the idea of “improving my mental game” a bit? I absolutely think the mental side of athletics is huge and under appreciated, at least is has been by me.

and

this too

I absolutely recommend you read How Bad Do You Want It by Matt Fitzgerald. It’s all about mental toughness, entertaining too.
