Where did you workout (ride, run, etc) OUTSIDE today? (2023)

Remember to check your suspension if riding in sub zero temperatures.

It has been snowing on and off for two days. Just lightly, but we have still received some 5cm/2in snow during the weekend. Riding in fresh snow is fun, but it requires more concentration than riding on packed, hard snow. Covered skies mean the weather is warmer, today it was -7 to -8 deg C.

Decided to go on road today and loaded up a TR outside workout (Electra). I was using my winter bike with no PM so it was done on RPE/HR I made my way down to near the Holly Lodge Cafe but I made the mistake of pressing lap when I didn’t need to so I ended up with one 10 minute tempo interval short. So I did it after the cool down. Towards the end of that I realised I was near an OS tile that I needed to bag so I diverted down a steep lane which was a wee bit flooded at the bottom and the timer page had no %HR max so it looks like I dropped out of the Tempo HR zone. After I bagged the tile I loaded Electra again so I could do it right. I did stop briefly for coffee and cake after the 2nd 10min interval. I made it a quick one as it was forecasted to turn wet.

After Electra was finished I decided to do some 60/60s at tempo to make sure I beat the rain. I did just :+1:

A nice morning for a ride. I have a slight downhill for the first 7-8 mins on roads before I hit trails. That’s the coldest part of the ride . One I get on trails, the speed slows, effort increases, and can generally stay warm. Sometimes a little too warm, when the snow gets soft on the uphills, and I’m pushing close to threshold to keep moving forward. Continual layer adjustment needed to avoid sweating.

Solana Beach, North San Diego County, CA. Incredible weather today.

Another ridiculously great day here - this time I was riding in the Rancho San Diego area which is somewhat inland. This was around 9:00 AM and was about 50 degrees.

I’m in New England but traveled to San Diego for work in January maybe 10 years ago. It was 70 degrees and sunny as we were eating fresh seafood for lunch…I was trying to figure out why I still live where I do!!:rofl::rofl:

My Workout today was Iaqua and as I’ve done for a while I did an Endurance workout on my commute. Although given there’s a lot of flooding I stuck to main roads and drifted out of the Endurance HR zone a few times. I averaged roughly where I wanted to be 59% Max HR but I drifted up to 75% max HR. Probably up the fast and busy main road into Knebworth

Beautiful snow day today.

Sunny and temperatures above zero, feels like March already. Freezing nights mean that all smaller roads are covered with ice and very slippery. With the studded tyres still fairly comfortable to ride, even without all that gravel.

My ride was actually yesterday but I was in a wee bit of a rush to get a ride in before a party so I’m only posting now.

It was out over Haddon Hill to Elton Furze for a potential meet. I hung around there for about 15 mins (didn’t help I was early as normal, so I only gave 5mins after the meet time) but nobody turned up. I should have gave about 8 mins though as one of my mates did but I had gone. I had a rough route in my head that I reckoned would take me about 2hours and give me enough time to walk 4.3 miles to town for the train. Down to Polebrook and up Chicken Farm Hill, round Barnwell and home kept that at what I felt was a tempo pace. Lol with the route to the meet and a more direct route back (not entirely circular) it was circa 2/3 head wind and only 1/3 tail wind. I was barely 15.5mph out for the 23miles to Barnwell and 18.7mph for the 11miles home. That earned me 5 beers but I might have exceeded that

Lol I think I need to tighten my HR strap or get a new one. It looks like it read flawlessly until I got the tailwind.

Visiting family in Florida for the holidays. It rained most of the drive here and is gloomy and wet out, but hey, it’s the beach!

Did 3 miles on the treadmill and then a quick full body workout in the hotel gym. I can already tell I’m going to be sore!

Nice! Based on how calm the water is, are you staying on the Gulf side?

Yep! My wife grew up in Panama City. I grew up in South FL.

Been way too busy at work to post.

Last Wednesday our Cycling Donut Warriors club had the annual onesies, ugly sweaters, and pajama ride.

More pics and video over here:

I’ll save somebody a click and post the YouTube video here:

And another ride from this past week…

Saturday ride on the “shaggy dog” route - dog facing left and you can see his tongue and floppy ears blowing back by the wind:

the usual Donut Warrior Saturday shenanigans:

after the 24mph hammer fest:

we split up, and I slow rolled the long way home with Tim & Debbie:

We have THE BEST ROADS EVER LOL.

Another hotel run this morning. I’ve been surprised at how well all of my recent long Z2 rides have translated to running. This pic as I was headed to the gym.

And later on, a few miles walking on the beach with the family

Not really a workout just the out. I headed along the coast into 22mph (36mph gusting) wind then cut inland to the hills, coming back over Cleish Hill and descending into town.

That reminds me I need to tighten the bike’s headset

Just a short one from me today and it was warm enough for a low tempo Z1 ride. It was a bit windy for anything more but surprisingly not unstably gusty. Along the coast through Toryburn (its a village not a political statement, I think), Valleyfield and Culross (the fictional Cranesmuir, Welcome to Fife : Outlander filming locations in Fife) to Kincardine and over the border into Bandit County (Clackmannanshire). I then came back along the old railway path (https://www.walkingwithbrian.com/west-fife-way) into the Kingdom and town.
