One of my local riding buddies works for the orange Z…I suggested they needed to do a on-bike keyboard and he indicated that something like this was coming.
I’d probably buy. I’ll wait to see how much more stuff they integrate into the game that needs the controller first. If it’s just the one repack course and steering everywhere else, then I’m not sure it’s worth it for $150.
At the $99 beta price, I will likely get at least one set. I could see it as a nice option for my wife with here Apple TV setup to avoid the remote for much of the game use.
I can see using it for the times I do regular Z rides vs my general distraction during TR workouts. I may get one and just swap between bikes since we don’t ride at the same time and they seem super quick to swap on/off.
As a DIY sim builder for my old auto racing setups, I had something like this in mind for YEARS. I’ve made do with a mini keyboard, but this device hits on all the goals I would have had for something like it.
ETA: Order placed. Will see how this goes and report back.
As a Neo / Movement plate owner, I was hoping that something like this was launched, ordered
This will be interesting to compare to my hacked E-Flex / Sterzo steering setup. I love how it is more intuitive, but dialing in the lean angle and some excess “wiggle” on screen during my standing efforts are slight negatives.
This should be more direct in control (and not when you don’t want it) so might be a worthwhile setup vs “bike lean” like my hack. Will also compare via my wife’s use with the PLAY and regular Sterzo Smart plate to cover all the bases.
I can’t figure out which I’ve spent more money on… indoor training or iracing!
HA, I hear you there. I haven’t done active sim racing since about 2008 when I refocused on bikes. I got into the Wildfire group that lead to beta testing for iRacing from 2006 to Aug 2008. Funny enough, I left the sport right when they released to the public. I still have my account and need to consider getting back into it all over again. Some fun times racing on there and other sims.
Hmmmm…haven’t watched the videos yet, but has anyone mentioned how they work with Campag shifters? Seems the thumb shifters would interfere with the controllers…and my trainer bike is Campag.
It’s not mentioned in Shane’s or Ray’s vids. I could see an issue with placement and maybe needing them set lower on the curve to clear.
ETA: found the following in the product page Tech Specs
One step closer to Mario Kart on the bike?!?!?
I wonder if this Bluetooth protocol they came up with is only open so other companies can make third party Zwift controllers, or companies like TrainerRoad will be able to integrate with the controller. I’d love to be able to use this thing for TrainerRoad, to toggle resistance mode, change workout intensity, etc.
In any case, just ordered a set while it’s on sale, maybe I’ll do more Zwifting next winter.
Would be good if it worked for GTBike V https://www.gtbikev.com/
Well that is confusing…outside of the new SR electronic stuff, what Campag shifters DON’T have thumbshifters???
Texted my buddy and he said that they tested with Campag and he said they don’t interfere with the thumbshifters…although I can’t see how that is possible looking at it.
Clear as Unbound mud (too soon?)
Yeah, it could some miscommunication on their end for sure. I have one friend who rides Campy and may see if I can bug him for a test fit to see. I would guess it will fit but needs to be lower down the curve, which might make use less than idea from longer reach and worse viewing angle?
That is my guess…
I am guessing they might have a handshake process for this otherwise I may be able to do this for less than $10 with a Raspberry Pi
Having the power up button handy might be worth the price of admission. That’s the only thing that looks helpful for how I use zwift. I ride/race zwift on rollers and my smart phone running the companion app is sitting nearby on a treadmill. I’m pretty good at hitting the powerup on the phone quickly, but still can be tough when going hard. The other buttons on those controllers are more likely to screw me up than help (accidentally take a turn during a race, etc.).
This won’t be an option for any race or actual group ride or event. Those all lock you into the course with no way to turn different from the planned route.
Would still be a concern for general riding though where intersections are open and active. But hitting a bad operation like brakes might be a real deal issue at times, and maybe others I’m not thinking of now.
Looks like mine is set to arrive Monday, so will get it setup for my wife to test on her Tues AM ride.
Can you get a set in canada. I didn’t see any shipping to canada
